Art Deco became popular in the 1920s and 1930s. It was not a single style, but a collection of different and sometimes contradictory styles. Among others, it was influenced by the bold geometric forms of Cubism and the bright colors of Fauvism (trapezoidal, zigzagged, triangular shapes, chevron patterns and stepped forms). Nowadays, Art Deco still represents luxury, glamour and exuberance.
This decorative style is also characterized by sweeping curves and sunburst motifs. Art Deco had a revival in the 1960s, marked by featured materials new to the 1920s, like chrome plating, stainless steel and plastic. It still represents faith in social and technological progress.
